Walk-in Visits
From 8:00 a.m. - 8:45 a.m., Monday - Friday, we do see established sick patients without appointments. Patients are seen on a first come, first served basis. If our capacity has been reached prior to your child arriving, you are offered an appointment for evaluation. To be fair to those with scheduled appointments, walk-ins after 8:45 a.m. (those without true medical emergencies) often have to wait until those previously scheduled patients have first been seen.
Sick or Injury Related Office Visits During Regular Office Hours
We make every effort to see sick or injured patients the same day of the call. Call as soon as you can (336-718-8000) to assure the earliest appointment time. We follow standard medical triage protocols to see the sickest or seriously injured patients first. Therefore, to avoid excessively long waiting times, we strongly suggest that you always call for an appointment.
Well Child Visits
Well child visits are important components of preventative medicine and frequently locate hidden problems early when proper management can be most successfully attained. They are a standard of care expected by the American Academy of Pediatrics and by medical practice credentialing and certification organizations with which we participate. Well child visits are expected and are not optional. We encourage annual well child visits, verify your insurance benefits to ensure coverage of annual visits.
Weekend and Holiday Visits
We do offer weekend and holiday appointments for urgent sick needs or urgent injury-related care on Saturdays mornings and on Sundays afternoons. You must have an appointment which may be secured by calling 336-718-8000.
Nurse Triage
We have a nurse available 24-hours per day and seven days per week to provide guidance to you. Select option #3 only when you have medical related questions. Due to the complexity of these calls, there may be longer wait times than the other options. To help reduce these wait times, we request that you do not select this option to make appointments, requests refills, inquire of immunization status, to cancel or change an appointment or to verify an appointment.
Prescription Refill Requests
Please request refills from your pharmacy which will electronically request the refill from the physician. If your pharmacy will not process your request please call 336-718-8000 and press option 1. Be sure to answer each question to ensure timely processing. Also remember that your child needs to be seen for a full check-up every 12 months for all medications and some medications (like ADHD and depression/anxiety medications) required medication check-ups every six months. We do request 5 days advance notice for refill requests.

You should stay alert of changes in your newborn’s skin color or the coloring in the whites of the eyes. A simple way to test for jaundice is to press gently with your fingertip on the tip of your baby’s nose or forehead. If the skin appears to be white, there is no jaundice. If you see a yellowish color, call our office and schedule an appointment to see a pediatrician. One of our doctors can see if significant jaundice is present.
RSV infects almost all children at least once before they are two years old. Most of the time, this virus only causes minor cold-like symptoms, such as runny nose, coughing and a low-grade fever. However, for some babies, RSV can be more dangerous and produce more serious signs of infection, including difficult or rapid breathing, wheezing, irritability or restlessness and poor appetite.
ADHD is characterized by three behavior symptoms: inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. It is normal for all children to show some of these problems from time to time. However, if your child is having difficulty learning in school, completing homework or playing with friends, you may want to discuss your child’s behavioral problems with your pediatrician.
Children should get two doses of MMR vaccine: the first at 12 - 15 months and the second at 4 - 6 years. Children who did not get the second shot before starting school should get a shot during their pre-teen or teenage years.
Hib vaccine prevents your child from developing meningitis, pneumonia and bloodstream infections caused by Hib bacteria. Usually, four shots are given: the first at 2 months of age, the second at 4 months, the third at 6 months, and the fourth at 12 months. Ask your child’s pediatrician for more information on the immunization schedule and dosage requirements for Hib vaccine.
An emergency generally involves an illness that is currently or potentially life threatening. Although this is not a complete list, here are examples of true emergency situations: chest pain, stroke symptoms, trouble breathing, sudden, severe pain, such as a headache or stomachache, head or back injuries, bleeding or vomiting that won’t stop, loss of consciousness, poisoning, major burns and cuts, choking, an obviously crooked extremity after a fall or accident. Individuals experiencing any of these conditions should go to the nearest emergency room or call 911.
